World's Best

A12-year-old mathematics genius Prem Patel, in the midst of navigating the tumultuous hardships of adolescence, discovers his recently deceased father was a famous rapper and immediately sets out to pursue a career for himself as a rap superstar. While his actions may appear reckless and the quickest way for him to lose everything, Prem, empowered by imaginative hip-hop music-fueled fantasies where he performs with his father, is determined to find out if hip-hop truly is in his DNA. As his father always used to say, "the world's best never rest".

I can't lie, I found this incredibly cringey. I tried looking past that given the obvious positive meaning and given it has a kid in the lead role, but every single time the rapping started (and there's a lot [!] of it) I was almost curled up in my seat. There's nothing more cringe than people trying to rap when they just can't, it'd be like me if I just began to rap out the blue. It also doesn't help that the rapping is Kidz Bop-esque, Patrice Wilson in Rebecca Black's Friday-esque. There are a few times when the lead is singing and it actually comes across much better, they should've had Prem doing that instead. Youngster Manny Magnus tries his best, as does Punam Patel, but their performances are just hidden behind the cringe, unfortunately.
